Stower Elementary School Demo
Stowers Demo: June 15th
At this demo, We had the students split into four groups and rotate around our different stations. For FLL, we had a research and a robot station. At the research station, one of the demonstrators explained the research portion and talked about this year’s theme, Food Factor. He discussed food safety and guided them through choosing the food, finding a problem, and coming up with an innovative solution.
At the robot station, we introduced the Roachbot, where the students were all able to get a turn play with the Roachbots by pointing a flashlight at the Roachbots and watching it turn around. VEX showed them the competition bot and explained the VEX game. They also had a station for square bots, where the students could control the robots with remote controls.
From this demo, I’ve discovered for myself that many students were interested in how the robot worked, and could become potential engineers. I think we could improve on the research part of our presentation, since some students could easily get bored from lectures. We could invent a game that gets the whole class to participate and have fun while learning. Overall, I believe the demo went pretty smoothly, although we did come across some battery problems at the square bot and roachbot station. Next time, we should make sure we always have a couple of extra charged batteries to make sure we never come across a situation where none of our robots are working.
Demo Plan:
12:05 P.M.: Start packing
12: 20- 12:30 P.M: Arrive
12:35 P.M.: Unpack, and start entering school
12:35-1:05: Set-up
